A family business with a strange name.

Our story

Angry Cat started with my boys.

When my boys were little, they won a grumpy cat from a claw machine and I put it on the dash of my truck. At the same time, I was trying to name the company around my last name, Prough. Every Pro or Prough-related name I tried seemed to be taken or denied.

After getting turned down a few times, I looked up at that grumpy cat sitting on the dash and thought: Angry Cat.

The name is a little different, but what the company stands for is pretty simple. I’m raising two boys who are teenagers now, and I’ve always told them that if we’re going to do something, we don’t do it 50%. We do it 100%. Treat yourself with respect, treat other people with respect, and do things the right way.

That’s the same standard I bring to Angry Cat Contracting.

Homeowners care who is going to be in their house for several weeks — fair enough. Tony quotes the work, plans it and runs it; the crew you see in these photos is the crew that shows up. Same faces from demo to walkthrough.

Why we keep the company small

Most remodeling companies grow by hiring crews and subcontracting the trades. It works, but it puts three or four layers between the person who sold you the job and the person holding the trowel. Things get lost there.

We went the other way. Tony runs every project himself — he quotes it, plans it and sees it through — and the project is never sold and handed off to an unknown crew.

What that actually means for you

• The person who quoted it is the person running it.
• The same small team from demo to final trim.
• Questions get answered by someone who knows the answer.
• We finish your job before starting the next one.
• You may wait a few weeks for a start date. That is the trade.

The 5-year workmanship warranty

If something we installed fails because of how we installed it, we come back and fix it at no charge for 5 years. Materials and fixtures carry whatever the manufacturer offers on top of that.
